Star Trails

5D with 24-70L at 25mm, f/2.8, ISO 160. Combined in photoshop with linear dodge (Add).

First attempt at star trails. Compiled in photoshop from multiple exposures, each 1 min. duration. Using shorter exposures rather than one long exposure reduces noise and lets you select which images you want. Also, if your battery dies in the middle of a long exposure, you lose the image. My remote trigger took images for about 47 minutes and I only used about 20 minutes as the beginning and end had clouds blowing by.

Google "Dan Heller" for some really cool star trails.

Seagull at Manhattan Beach

Canon 5D with 70-200 at 200mm, f/4, 1/500s, ISO50
Seagulls are dirty birds, but they can still be great subjects. Some were actually in the surf admirably trying to hunt for food, but this one was about to pearch on a trash can to feast on a soggy sandwich.

Sandpipers?

Springtime in the Evening

I was mostly just tooling around, but I thought this particular photo conveyed a certain mood and feel of Spring transitioning into Summer, with warm hues and ample lighting.

Playing In The Dark, Pt. 3

_MG_9634_export

When inspiration strikes, I respond. There was a hazy light coming through the window which made for this really cool scene. Cooling the hue and desaturating most of the colors gives it this cross process ektachrome feel.

Jankity tripod, self-timer and a short sprint allowed me to take this picture. Reduced saturation, bumped contrast, and boosted shadows gives you what you see here.
